CityAirbus Demonstrator Unveiled
Airbus revealed photos of its completed but unpainted unmanned CityAirbus at Heli-Expo on March 5, followed by an official unveiling of the demonstrator in Ingolstadt, Germany, on March 11. Developed about 35 miles (60 km) away at the company’s Donauwörth, Germany, plant, the aircraft will be tested at the Ingolstadt Manching Airport. This airport is home to the German Bundeswehr Technical and Airworthiness Center for Aircraft (known as WTD 61), as well as a test center for Airbus Defence and Security, and is a shuttle site for the nearby Audi headquarters.
CityAirbus is leading by the European Union’s Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Initiative of the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities (EIP-SCC), supported by the European Commission. The pilot project in Ingolstadt is supported by the Ingolstadt Technical University, the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and several other companies, including Audi. As of press time, the first flight is expected in April. (Airbus photo)
