AIR and Nidec Partner on VTOL Motor
On Feb. 21, Pardes Hana, Israel-based AIR VEV Ltd announced that it had partnered with Nidec Motor Corporation to develop the motor for the AIR ONE, the company’s production model of its two-seat eVTOL aircraft. The two companies will collaborate on developing an electric motor customized to meet the 100-mile (160-km) flight range of the AIR ONE. AIR intends to incorporate the enhanced-efficiency motor into the AIR ONE’s ongoing flight testing and, eventually, into its production. Nidec Motor Corporation is a US-based subsidiary of Japan’s Nidec Corporation, which specializes in electric motors and has partnered with other eVTOL developers, like Eve Air Mobility (see “eVTOL Leaders Continue to Accelerate Progress,” Vertiflite, Jan/Feb 2024).
