AIR One Displayed at the Kentucky Derby
AIR revealed a full-scale prototype of its AIR ONE eVTOL at the Kentucky Derby on May 7. The Israel-based eVTOL developer unveiled the AIR ONE in October (see “Electric VTOL News,” Vertiflite, Jan/Feb 2022). The two-passenger AIR ONE is a fixed-wing eVTOL aircraft powered by four pairs of coaxial electric motors. It is expected to have a range of 110 miles (177 km) and maximum speed of 155 mph (249 km/h), according to the VFS World eVTOL Aircraft Directory. In addition to displaying the full-scale prototype for the first time, AIR announced on May 9 that it has partnered with Aeroauto, a Florida-based aircraft sales and services company that specializes in eVTOL aircraft. The company said it is currently preparing to begin hover testing and continues to work closely with the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to finalize its formal application enroute to Step 2 of the G1 Certification Basis Document. AIR said it expects the AIR ONE to be commercially available in 2024.
