Airbus Looks to Japan

Airbus announced on Sept. 7 that it has partnered with helicopter operator Hiratagakuen to introduce the CityAirbus NextGen eVTOL aircraft to the Kansai region in south-central Japan. Airbus and Hiratagakuen will conduct a study of the possible routes, equipment and concepts of operations for introducing eVTOL to the Kansai region. The two companies are also planning on conducting a demonstration flight with an H135 helicopter to evaluate the navigation and communication technologies underpinning future eVTOL operations. The Kansai region has been the locus of efforts to introduce Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) services in Japan, with significant efforts focused on the 2025 World Expo in Osaka. “We are aware that a revolution in air transportation is now approaching in the Osaka area, and we expect CityAirbus NextGen to play a central role in this revolution,” said Mitsuhiro Hirata, VP for aviation operations at Hiratagakuen, in a statement.
