CityAirbus Flies Autonomously

Airbus Helicopters posted a video on July 31 stating that its “CityAirbus demonstrator performed its first fully automatic flight: take off, stabilisation in flight and landing” at its Donauwörth, Germany, plant. This came just 11 days after its first public demonstration, which was performed on July 20 for Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder. The company stated that the unmanned demonstrator (D-HCIA) — which is intended to prove the feasibility of a four-seat eVTOL aircraft with four ducted, coaxial electric propellers — will be moved at the end of August to Ingolstadt Manching Airfield, where Airbus Defence and Space has its flight test center. There it will expand its flight envelope at the much larger, secure airfield. (Sources: Airbus)
