CityAirbus Starts Spinning

Airbus Helicopters announced that its four-seat, quad-ducted propeller eVTOL, the CityAirbus, was getting close to its maiden flight planned for late 2018. The company completed the first full-scale propulsion system testing for its CityAirbus demonstrator. During this successful testing, the team thoroughly checked the individual performance of one of the ducted lift units. The company’s next step will be tests of the fully integrated drivetrain — with eight propellers and eight specially designed Siemens SP200D drivetrains (each direct-drive with 100kW operating power) with high torque-to-weight ratio.
