Craft Aero’s Blown Wing

Craft Aerospace Technologies completed a $3.5M seed round with Calm Ventures, Countdown Capital, Deep Ventures, Giant Ventures, Soma Capital, Trajectory Capital and Y Combinator, as well as advisor Nikhil Goel, co-founder of Uber Elevate. The design uses 16 electric propellers on the leading edges of a diamond-shaped joined wing with slats and multiple flaps to deflect the slipstream through 90 degrees for vertical flight. Craft was founded by James Dorris and Axel Radermacher in 2019, and began conducting subscale demonstrations last year. The company, based near Los Angeles, California, says its nine-passenger regional air mobility eVTOL has a maximum speed of 345 mph (555 km/h) and a range of 1,000 miles (1,609 km), which would cover 65% of air routes within the US.
