DOE Selects CDI for Hydrogen Project

Continuum Dynamics, Inc. announced in September that the US Department of Energy (DOE) had selected it to work on a hydrogen fuel cell project. The Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award, which is entitled “Design Support Methodologies and Tool-chain for Hydrogen Fuel Cell Regional and Urban Air Mobility Aircraft,” will investigate the use of hydrogen fuel cell technology for eVTOL and electric short or conventional takeoff and landing (eSTOL/eCTOL) aircraft. The project will “develop and validate state-of-the-art design methods and software to support zero-emission aircraft powered by hydrogen fuel cells,” the company said in a statement. To do so, CDI will build on its Comprehensive Hierarchical Aeromechanics Rotorcraft Model (CHARM), while its partners at the University of Maryland will provide the fuel cell models for the project.
