Kaman to Build Transcend’s Vy 400

In mid-August, Transcend Air Corporation announced agreements with Kaman Corporation and General Electric for the company’s Vy 400 high-speed vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. The four-to-five-passenger Vy 400 is a single-engine, tiltwing with shaft-driven propellers and an electric tail propeller for pitch control. Kaman Aerospace Group, Inc., will build the 400 mph (640 km/h) Vy 400 at its Jacksonville, Florida, facility, which is a leading supplier of complex aircraft structures and sub-assemblies, as well as sheet metal details, extruded parts and machined components for the commercial and defense aerospace industries. GE Aviation will develop and certify a custom variant of GE’s class-leading CT7- 8 turboshaft helicopter engine to power the Vy 400 (instead of the previously announced Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 -67F).
