The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Civil Aviation Authority Singapore (CAAS) announced on Dec. 4 that they had updated their bilateral agreement to facilitate CAAS validation of EASA aircraft type certifications. This amendment allows the two regulators to “collaborate on facilitating aviation innovations, such as electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. With immediate effect, CAAS will be able to validate EASA design approvals concurrently and in close coordination with EASA’s type certification process.” In the previously agreement, signed in July 2017, the validation by CAAS could only commence after EASA had issued the Type Certificate. This will help aviation companies in Singapore — such as Volocopter — to innovate and benefit from rapidly developing aviation technologies.

Meanwhile, Hyundai held a virtual groundbreaking ceremony of the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center in Singapore (HMGICS). The center will act as an open innovation lab for the company’s future mobility research and development, with the aim of revolutionizing the future mobility value chain. The building will feature a vertiport and ample solar panels to provide the energy to the lab, which will open by the end of 2022.
