SkyDrive Makes Inroads in India
On Jan. 9, SkyDrive announced that it had secured an unspecified amount of additional funding from Suzuki for its Series C funding round, resulting in the allotment of new shares to Suzuki. SkyDrive intends to begin producing its SkyDrive eVTOL aircraft at a Suzuki-owned plant in 2024. The two companies made the announcement during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 in India, where SkyDrive revealed additional partnerships. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi (previously the Chief Minister of Gujarat) visited the SkyDrive exhibit (shown).
On Jan. 11, SkyDrive and the State of Gujarat partnered to explore the establishment of an AAM ecosystem in Gujarat by 2027. Under the agreement, SkyDrive will undertake a series of feasibility studies with Gujarat’s Department of Science and Technology. Then, on Jan. 17, SkyDrive and Marut Drones, a drone manufacturer in India, agreed to explore mutually beneficial opportunities.
