US Navy Adds $4.6M to PteroDynamics Contract

On Feb. 18, PteroDynamics announced an expansion of its contract with the US Navy to develop and demonstrate a new generation of its uncrewed aircraft to deliver supplies to ships at sea. The Navy added $4.65M to the contract to develop its P5 Transwing aircraft, intended to have a maximum takeoff weight of 330 lb (150 kg) and a minimum range of 400 nm (740 km) carrying a 50-lb (185-kg) payload. PteroDynamics, based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, said the total contract is now worth more than $7M and would improve on the design of the P4 Transwing prototype it demonstrated during the Navy’s Rim of the Pacific exercises in Hawaii in the summer of 2024. The company’s Transwing aircraft are designed with folding wings to transition between vertical and fixed-wing flight.
