Washington Report, Jan/Feb 2024

FAA Reauthorization Postponed
On Dec. 11, the US House of Representatives passed legislation that would extend the deadline to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) until March 8, 2024. Although the House passed its version of the reauthorization package in July, the Senate has yet to do so. The bill, HR 6503, would allow the Senate more time to pass its version of the FAA reauthorization legislation and both chambers the opportunity to settle any differences. The FAA’s operating authority and budget was initially set to expire at the end of the last fiscal year, in September 2023, before legislators passed a 47-day extension of the deadline (see “Washington Report,” Vertiflite, Nov/Dec 2023). As of press time, a vote on the House’s bill to extend the deadline once again was pending in the Senate.
