XTI Refines TriFan 600

XTI Aircraft has adjusted its design for the TriFan 600 hybrid-electric VTOL airplane. On Aug. 4, the company said that it has moved the tilting ducted fans from the wings to the fuselage of the aircraft, which it says will simplify the wing structure and maximize wing area. The initial aircraft will be certified with two pre-existing turboshaft engines, though XTI is continuing to work with partner HyPoint on integrating a hydrogen fuel-cell based hybrid-electric propulsion system. The TriFan 600 is now expected to enter production in 2027, three years later than initially planned. Preorders of the TriFan 600 have grown in value by 50% in the past year to a total of $3B, said CEO Michael Hinderberger in an Aug. 3 press conference.
