Founded in 2021, Mostavio is a manufacturer of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for advanced air mobility (AAM) and is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The company has stated they focus on safety, sustainability and intelligent design. The mission of the company is to make personal air transportation more accessible, efficient and environmentally responsible. The company successfully designs, manufactures and sells drones under Mostavio Skytech division. The team is a GoAERO Stage 1 winner.
For the GoAERO competition, the Mostavio Team Lead was Nima Pourmostaghimi. The Team Members include Nima Pourmostaghimi, Dr. Younes Sadat-Nejad, Dr. Khaled Daghestani, Dr. Abdulhakim Algmuni, Dr. Mostafa Asadi, Hossein Kazemi, Jonathan Spraggett, Dhanush Kumar, Sarthak Bhatnagar, Manoj Chapagain, Akshay Patelm Robson Vieira de Souza, Michael Piggott and Erfan KhademAgha.
AeroGuardian heavy-lift air cargo eVTOL multicopter aircraft (concept design)
The AeroGuardian is an autonomous heavy-lift air cargo eVTOL multicopter aircraft. The air cargo drone has been designed for emergency response and rapid intervention. The drone can deploy within five minutes of receiving a mission. The drone can transport life-saving supplies, human organs or one patient. The AeroGuardian is a GoAero Stage 1 winner.
The estimated cruise speed for the drone is 75 mph (120 km/h), has an anticipated range of 34 miles (54 km) and has a calculated flight time of 40 minutes. The drone has eight stacked propellers, eight electric motors and is powered by battery packs. The fuselage is made from carbon fiber composite to give the aircraft a high strength to low weight ratio. The drone has fixed skid landing gear. The company offers an option for the customer to purchase an emergency ballistic parachute for the drone.
Over 1,000 Subscale Drone Flight Tests Announced in 2023
Mostavio announced in 2023 it had successfully completed over 1,000 subscale drone flight tests, a major milestone in the validation of its flight control system and autonomous capabilities. These tests provide critical data for sensor fusion, stability control, and flight controller integration, allowing the company's engineering team to refine system parameters and optimize performance for full-scale eVTOL applications.
About the GoAERO Prize Competition
The GoAERO Prize, sponsored by Boeing, is a three year competition (2024-2027) offering over $2 million USD in prizes that challenges engineers worldwide to create portable, versatile and autonomy-enabled Emergency Response Aircraft that address not only everyday medical emergencies but also to be used in natural disasters, humanitarian emergencies and climate crises worldwide. Each team designs and builds autonomous Emergency Response aircraft capable of delivering a first responder, medical equipment and supplies and ultimately evacuating victims in need to a rescue ambulance or hospital.
More than 150 teams from around the globe are competing for the GoAero prizes. The GoFly and GoAERO prizes were developed by Boeing and other organizations to help the nascent advanced air mobility (AAM) industry move forward.
Specifications:
- Aircraft type: Emergency services heavy-lift air cargo eVTOL multicopter aircraft (concept design)
- Piloting: Autonomous
- Capacity: Air cargo and/or patient
- Cruise speed: 75 mph (120 km/h)
- Range: 34 miles (54 km)
- Flight time: 40 minutes
- Maximum payload weight: 353 lb (160 kg)
- Propellers: 8 stacked propellers
- Electric motors: 8 electric motors
- Power source: Battery packs
- Fuselage: Carbon fiber composite
- Landing gear: Fixed skid landing gear
- Safety features: Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP) uses multiple propellers or electric ducted fans, each powered by electric motors, to increase safety through redundancy. If one or more components fail, the remaining ones can still ensure a safe landing. There are also redundancies of critical components in the sub-systems of the aircraft providing safety through redundancy. Having multiple redundant systems on any aircraft decreases having any single point of failure. The aircraft has no moving surfaces or tilting parts when transitioning from vertical to forward flight and the reverse which increases safety by reducing complexity. The company offers an option for the customer to purchase an emergency ballistic parachute.
