NAATS Aviation Pvt Ltd was founded on April 17, 2023 in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India. The company is in the business of making passenger electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for advanced air mobility. The company has two current aircraft designs, a multicopter aircraft and a winged eVTOL aircraft. The company has already made a multicopter prototype and has successfully flown the aircraft.
NAV Copter 254 passenger eVTOL multicopter prototype aircraft
THe NAV Copter 254 is a two passenger eVTOL multicopter prototype aircraft. The aircraft has an almost oval shaped fuselage with three windows. The front window is large and the aircraft has two small side windows. Inside the aircraft is a bench seat for the passengers. The aircraft has one door on the aircraft. It is unknown how the aircraft is piloted, it could be remotely piloted or possibly have autonomous piloting.
The cruise speed of the multicopter is 100 km/h (62 mph) and has a range of 40 km (25 m). The aircraft's power source is batteries. The aircraft has eight propellers and eight electric motors. There are four sets of stacked propellers that are located on four booms at forty-five degree angles on each corner of the lower fuselage. The fuselage is made from carbon fiber composite for a high strength and low weight ratio. The multicopter aircraft has fixed skid landing gear.
Future plans
The company is designing a vertiport structure with a passenger terminal, landing pads and hangar areas to make sure there will be the infrastructure needed for advanced air mobility to take place in metropolitan areas. The company foresees the aircraft to be used for air taxi service, VIP transportation and emergency medical service.
Specifications:
- Aircraft type: Passenger eVTOL multicopter prototype aircraft
- Piloting: Unknown
- Capacity: 2 passengers
- Cruise speed: 100 km/h (62 mph)
- Range: 40 km (25 m)
- Propellers: 8 propellers
- Electric motors: 8 electric motors
- Power source: Batteries
- Fuselage: Carbon fiber composite with one door and bench seating for the passengers
- Windows: Front and two side windows
- Landing gear: Fixed skid landing gear
- Safety features: Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP) means having multiple propellers (or electric ducted fans) and multiple electric motors on an aircraft so if one or more propellers (or electric ducted fans) or some electric motors fail, the other working propellers (or electric ducted fans) and electric motors can safely land the aircraft. DEP provides safety through redundancy for passengers or cargo. There are also redundancies of critical components in the sub-systems of the aircraft providing safety through redundancy. Having multiple redundant systems on any aircraft decreases having any single point of failure.
