The Midnight Sky is a 2020 American science fiction film based on the 2016 novel Good Morning, Midnight by Lily Brooks-Dalton. The basic storyline of the movie is about an aging scientist with a terminal illness, in 2049, who must venture across the frigid Arctic Circle to warn off a returning interplanetary spaceship following a global catastrophe on Earth. Filming took place in England and Iceland. The movie was distributed by Netflix. (Image credit: The Midnight Sky)

Transporter heavy-lift military passenger and cargo hybrid-electric helicopter concept design
The Transporter is heavy-lift military passenger and cargo hybrid-electric helicopter concept design. In the movie, The Midnight Sky (2020), this concept design rotorcraft was flying in 2049. The military helicopter at this point could be piloted by one or two pilots or have autonomous piloting. The aircraft resembles Sikorsky Aircraft's CH-53K King Stallion heavy-lift military helicopter. This size of helicopter can carry 30 or more passengers.

The aircraft has six propellers, or they are possibly called rotor-props, and each propeller is controlled independently to provide maximum aerodynamic control for the pilots or by the artificial intelligent (AI) pilot. The rotor-prop's armatures are located equidistant on each side and on the top of the fuselage. All six rotor-props are retractable for ease of storage in hangars and on ships. The aircraft is powered by a hybrid-electric power source that allows it to carry heavy payloads and have a long travel range. The fuselage is made from carbon fiber composite materials for a high strength and low weight ratio. The aircraft has retractable wheeled landing gear.

Specifications:

  • Aircraft type: Heavy-lift military passenger and cargo hybrid-electric helicopter concept design
  • Piloting: 1 or 2 pilots or artificial intelligent (AI) piloting
  • Capacity: Possibly 30 or more people
  • Cruise speed: Unknown
  • Propellers: 6 propellers or rotor-props (all 6 are retractable for ease of storage in hangars and on ships)
  • Electric motors: 6 or 12 electric motors
  • Power source: Hybrid-electric power source
  • Fuselage: Carbon fiber composite
  • Windows: Typical large helicopter windows in the cockpit and large windows in the passenger/cargo compartment
  • Landing gear: Retractable tricycle wheeled landing gear
  • Safety features: Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP), provides safety through redundancy for its passengers and/or cargo. DEP means having multiple propellers (or ducted fans) and motors on the aircraft so if one or more propellers (ducted fans) or motors fail, the other working propellers (or ducted fans) and motors can safely land the aircraft. There are also redundancies of critical components in the sub-systems of the aircraft.
